Grey waistcoat with black suit?

I have a black suit jacket (not a dinner jacket) and black trousers and I'm going to an evening event, what colour waistcoat,shirt and tie should I put with it? Can I put a grey waistcoat with it and if I did what colour tie would you recommend ?
