Is it acceptable to ask a clothing store attendant for help when dressing?

At my current weight and shape it's become impossible for me to ty and unty my shoes. When I'm trying on trousers in a store I usually ask the guy that works in the changing area to help. I mostly go to one or two stores so they know me but is it ok? should I bring a friend with me when I go to help?
